September 2011 Release Day 1

Hello, and welcome to Day 1 of our September Release! For those of you that are new to Wplus9, we will spend the next couple of days getting up close and personal with the products that we will be releasing this month. All previewed items will be available for purchase on September 5th at www.wplus9.com.

This month we have 4 new stamp sets and 1 new coordinating die. We are also switching it up a bit this month, I will be going it alone this week, and the design team will start joining in with their projects over the next two weeks. So today and tomorrow I am going to be showing you Class Act and the coordinating background building set Design Basics: Classroom Backgrounds.

Class Act

  • is a 6x8 clear photopolymer stamp set
  • contains 18 stamps; allows you to create multiple styles of journaling cards and more with 1 pre-built journaling card, 5 card building pieces and 9 sentiments/titles
  • will be available for purchase September 5th for just $19

It's that time of year and the kids are all headed back to school. Class Act and Design Basics: Classroom backgrounds is perfect for documenting those memories. Now be forewarned, I am not great (or even good) at layouts. But, as tradition holds, if design it...it would be helpful if I actually used it. Right?!

My boys were NOT happy about Summer ending...but they were troopers, and put on some big smiles for me for the first day of school. The new shoes and book bags helped too. This layout kicked my butt, and my sewing machine too. So please pardon the stitching. I broke two needles in the process, I didn't even know that was possible! Let me show you some of the details.

I created the CLASS SCHEDULE tag tucked up on the top left by stamping a portion of one of the background pieces from Classroom Backgrounds. I trimmed it out and rounded the corners before stitching down. The little assignment card is the pre-built journaling card included in Class Act, I added the "A+" also included in the set instead of adding personal journaling.

The background for my title was created by stamping the primary journal lines from Classroom Backgrounds in white onto a blue strip of cardstock. These backgrounds stamps are approx. 5.75" long, making them very easy to line up and stamp across a full 12 inch piece of paper.

For my jounaling, I decided to stamp one of the interior stamps onto a tag instead of building a journaling card. It fit perfectly and makes a great accent to add a bit of personal story. Finally, keeping with the theme, I added another of the background building images from Classroom Backgrounds across the bottom of my layout in white.

Now of course, I haven't forgotten my card making roots, both sets are wonderful for card making as well!

Here I've layered two of the journaling cards on top of each other for my focal point. I used the card building pieces to create my own custom card. The wonderful thing about this is that you can create a horizontally or vertically oriented card. I will show you more detail on that tomorrow. I stamped the "Great Job" sentiment repeatedly in red ink for a watermark effect, and added the "Well Done" sentiment onto a label (more on this later this week) for my primary sentiment.

I have only scratched the surface with these sets so far. Be sure to stop by tomorrow for more.

Would you like to win Class Act and Design Basics: Classroom Backgrounds? I will be showcasing these goodies both today and tomorrow, so leave me a comment by 11:59 PM EST September 2nd telling me if you prefer scrapbooking or card making and why. I will select one random winner from all comments. Winners will be posted here.

Thanks for joining me and I hope to see you tomorrow!

  2. Sooo stinkin' cute, Dawn. These layouts are marvelous - love the great new stamping images for scrapbooking. I'm definitely a card maker, but I could possible be persuaded to be a scrapbooker if I had these great stamps! LOL

  3. Can you say awesome Dawn? That layout is fabulous!! I started as a scrapbooker but definitely now a cardmaker! I think it's the smaller scale of a card that makes it all less frightning! LOL

  4. Wow, these layouts are great and the new sets look really fun too! I prefer to make cards because they are faster and because I like having cards to give out to people. But I think scrapbooking takes a lot of thought and creativity and I love to build on both those areas when I scrapbook.

I am definitely a card maker, though I really want to explore the scrapbooking side of me :)

  6. Great layout and the boys look cool!

I've always been a cardmaker and love making "tailored" cards to friends and relatives.

  7. I definitely prefer cardmaking. I'm not organized enough for scrapbooking, and I love the almost instant gratification in making cards, since they are so small.

  8. Eeek! Dawn did a scrapbook page! Love, love, LOVE it to pieces! Oh! I so want to play with these goodies! Beautiful work, girl!

  9. These are both great projects, Dawn - your layout is really fantastic! I am more of a card maker.. I like the smaller space and I feel like I don't take enough pictures to scrap! I love the office-y feel of your card and can't wait to see more of these sets!

  10. I think your page is awesome! I prefer card making, I think maybe because the scrapbook layouts are so large, idk, I just am never happy with my layouts. But I just received my first mini album, so I will see if the smaller size is any better for me :)

  11. With both of my kiddos in school this year, I am definitely in need of some new school themed sets! These both look just fantastic, and your projects today have inspired me to get back to work on my scrapbook layouts. I am definitely more of a card maker now, as I love the smaller canvas and ability to finish a project in a much shorter time than for a full scrapbook page!

  12. Can I answer both? I prefer cardmaking when I'm alone and I can use wonderful stamps. I prefer scrapbooking when I have people to scrapbook with, and rarely do I use stamps. So in this case, it is a win win since these seem great for scrapbookers too!

  13. Great layout and card. I prefer cardmaking because it isn't as intimidating as scrapbooking and it usually goes to someone to make their day brighter. Thank you so much for the chance to win.

  14. I prefer card-making because there's less emotion invested in it, so there's less pressure to get it just right and more room to play.

  15. I prefer scrapbooking for the memory keeping, but cards are faster crafty gratification!

  16. When I see a layout like yours, I wish I got more scrapbooking done, but I'm a card-maker at heart!

  17. I prefer card making--it goes faster and I don't have to find the perfect photos.

  18. Your layout is fabulous. Love the card too. I am a cardmaker. When I started papercrafts, I was going to scapbook. But I am the slowest crafter in the world, with the limited time I have now, I just enjoy the cardmaking. I will definitly scrap when kids are older.

  19. WOW - what amazing LO - makes me wish I scrapbooked more (-: but I'm a cardmaker most of the time- it's easier and I love to give or send my family and friends homemade cards.
Thanks for wonderful inspiration, as always and thanks for the chance to win!

  21. I started scrapbooking years ago, but in the last 3-4 years, I started card making! Its just much quicker ;)

  22. LOVE your page and card. The color combination is awesome. I love both crafts. I am newer at scrapbooking but i think I am loving scrapbooking just a tad more that card making because I am enjoying documenting about our family's history and not just having our pictures in the computer and I seem to whip a few scrapbooking pages faster than i can finish one card.

  23. Love your pages. Really inspiring! I would love to try these out and do some scrapping and/or card making with these. I've been absent from blogging for quite a few months and have the itch to get some crafty groove on!

  24. Fabulous projects! The new sets look great! Gosh, hard to decide, I love doing both scrapbook LO's and cards, but if I could only do one I'd have to choose scrapbooking. There is nothing like preserving the sweet memories of life.
